Coming Soon: Magento Community Edition 1.9.1
Just last week, Magento announced the release of Enterprise Edition 1.14.1. Of course, the eCommerce and Magento communities are very excited to upgrade to this new version, but not every e-store utilizes Enterprise Edition. Some sites rely on Magento’s free platform, Community Edition. What about the CE update? If you use CE for your site, then you are in luck. Within the next few weeks, Magento will release Community Edition 1.9.1! Watch our video detailing the new features or read onward to get an idea of what is in store for the new version:
Swatches:
Swatches have been added to product images. This is a great way to boost conversion rates while giving customers more confidence with their purchases. Swatches allow customers to pick from available colors, fabrics, or other attributes associated with a product and change the image in real time. For instance, if a customer is looking at a purple jacket and wants to see it in yellow, he/she can click on the yellow swatch and the image of a purple jacket will be switched to yellow.
Responsive Design:
The responsive theme that comes standard with Magento can now be applied for all platforms much more easily. This means formatting for mobile platforms is no longer a hassle. The responsive theme is also applied for email templates.
Enhanced Performance and Security:
Support for MySQL 5.6 and PHP 5.5 has been added. MySQL 5.6 improves site speed and scalability, houses enhanced debugging tools, and much more. PHP 5.5 provides enhanced security and ensures merchants have continued access to code updates.
Google Universal Analytics:
Community Edition supports Google Universal Analytics. This allows merchants to define specific customer, dimensions and metrics for tracking gain access to ongoing feature updates, obtain better user-level tracking, and gain enhanced eCommerce reporting.
Improved Quality:
CE will host improvements to promotions, security, product import/export, and multiple other features.
As you can see, many of these features are also included with Enterprise Edition 1.14.1, although EE has several extra features.
